The case involved a Mr. Ronald Burlie Thomas, who worked for two brake repair shops during the 1970s and early 1980s and was exposed to asbestos in brake products and vehicles over the years, which manifested into mesothelioma in 2017.
The 24-day trial ended after the jury deliberated for a day and a half and resulted in Mr. Thomas being awarded $5.55 million in damages, and $1 million each for the mental anguish his three children—Michael Thomas, Kara Bryant, and Joanne Scott—suffered.
